I just watched one of the best movies that I have seen in a long time based on Hunter S. Thompson's book, The Rum Dairies. One quote from it that was not written by Thompson is below.
"Human beings are the only creatures on Earth that claim a god and the only living thing that behaves like it hasn't got one."
It is a statement that requires much thought and reflection but is quite true. The altruistic nature of most animals shows that if god is omnipotent and omniscient, and everything on earth that was created by god is in god's image, then animals, excluding humans, must have been created by god because they live in harmony with nature. This, of course, excludes those animals displaced by human action. Humans more resemble a virus that has evolved to exploit resources and other organisms only for their benefit. Is this an imitation of the actions of a benign god? I think not.
